Premiering Shows
Premieres
A showcase of vids making their debut at FanWorks 2023.
The Premieres show is the highlight of the video track at FanWorks! Vids sent to this show must not have been released anywhere previously - at other cons, as online posts, or to any audience larger than your betas / cheerleaders. Premieres is all-new, with every vid making its debut to the con audience.
Variations: "It Surrounds You"
Variations is a showcase of premiering vids made for a specific theme. The theme for 2023 is It Surrounds You.
A house, a hotel, a car, a spaceship, a kitchen, an office, a battlefield, a forest, an ocean, a city, a galaxy – vids about places, settings, environments. You can focus on the setting itself, how people relate to it, how it brings together or divides a community, any aspect you want.

Girlhood | VJ: Periru3
From weird little girls to rebellious teens, tomboys to pretty pink princesses - this is a vidshow about girlhood and the trials and triumphs of growing up.
Hip-Hop | VJ: ViddersAdmin
A selection of vids influenced by hip-hop songs and culture.
Partying, Partying, Yeah | VJ: sweetestdrain

Eras | VJ: Trelkez
A collaborative vidshow featuring small sets of vids, with each set made by a different vidder during a specific era in their vidding history.
Vidder-Submitted Shows
The Year in Vids
Vids released between August 1, 2022 and the submissions deadline. There are no thematic restrictions on this show; anything that was posted online, played at a con, etc. during that time counts.
Mystery Box
The VJ(s) will create a themed vidshow using only vidder submissions. The vidshow theme itself depends entirely on what's submitted and could be anything, so vids on any theme are welcome!
Please keep in mind that not all vids uploaded for Mystery Box will show, as the goal is to create a relatively coherent show around a single theme. (Will such a thing be possible? We'll see!) For more info, check the submission guidelines below.
Variations: "It Surrounds You"
This year, Variations is also taking non-premiering vids! As a reminder, the theme is: "A house, a hotel, a car, a spaceship, a kitchen, an office, a battlefield, a forest, an ocean, a city, a galaxy – vids about places, settings, environments."
If the show runs over time and we can't show all submitted vids, premieres will be prioritized. (Or, if there are a lot of non-premiering submissions, we may have separate vidshows for premiering and non-premiering vids.)
Vid Submission Guidelines
Vids are submitted through the FanWorks dashboard (visible when logged in). You can upload a vid here, or manage previously submitted vids here.
Vidders can submit up to two vids per show, and can show up to three vids if a third is submitted by a co-vidder. Vids must be your own work.

FanWorks has standardized content notes for all works. We encourage anyone submitting vids to check out the usage guidelines for FanWorks content notes.

Curated Shows
These shows are not open to general submissions. If you are contacted by a VJ and asked to upload a vid for a curated / themed show, please follow the submission deadline they give you.

If you have questions about vid encoding or vid uploading, need help navigating the con dashboard for vid submissions, or are running up against a deadline and want to inquire about a deadline extension, email us at fanworksvidtech@gmail.com.
If you're writing about a deadline extension, please know that the Premieres deadline is 99.95% likely to be a hard deadline with no extensions given - the October 26th deadline may be a little more flexible. It's always worth writing in just in case, but please be understanding if we can't give extensions out! We strongly encourage writing us as soon as you know you might need an extension, rather than waiting until the deadline; the sooner we know, the more likely it is we'll be able to work with you to figure out a solution.
(That said, don't hesitate to email us at the deadline if you need to! If it's 11:58PM Eastern on deadline night and you're still trying to upload a vid, we strongly encourage you to email us and let us know you have a vid coming in - we don't want to turn the lights off while you're mid-upload.)
